Andy has been in the tree business for over 16 years and is an ISA Certified Arborist®. Recently he received certification for the Emerald Ash Borer disease which is not only hitting Door County badly but the entire country. He has a BA in Business Administration/Finance from the University of Wisconsin/Green Bay. He has passed both the Series 6 and 7 S.E.C. General Securities Representative exams.
Andy has been in love with the outdoors since he was a small child. His first visit to Door County at age 8 in the winter of 1971 left a big impression on him. He distinctly remembers the beautiful view from the top of the Ellison Bay hill, and from that moment, he learned to appreciate what a good view means. He spent summers on the family farm in Ellison Bay. When he turned 14, he was handed a Stihl O28 chain saw and given instructions to remove the 10-acre Montmorency cherry orchard that was aging and unproductive. As a replacement, he helped plant 40,000 white pine trees which he still maintains to this day. He also spent summers in high school helping the cherry orchard crews on a nearby farm harvest 300 acres of tart cherries across northern Door County with a Friday Limb shaker.
In 1982, Andy started a charter fishing business which he ran successfully and safely for 18 years. He spent the off season fishing commercially for the Hickey Brothers Fisheries in Baileys Harbor. Andy logged over 16,000 hours on the water and carried over 20,000 passengers for hire.
In the mid 90s, Andy returned to school and received a BA in Business Administration/Finance. After a brief career in insurance and financial planning, he realized he needed to work in a three-dimensional setting. This realization came true when Andy’s Sturgeon Bay neighborhood was destroyed by straight line winds. He helped the neighbors clean up their disaster. Soon, word was out, and he was receiving more calls for tree work than financial planning. Shortly thereafter, Acorn Tree Service was incorporated in 2001.
When Andy is not climbing trees, he spends time with his wife, Tammy, four children, and two labs Lucy and Ollie. He loves to fish, hunt, boat, and jet ski throughout the waters of Door County.
